Enzymes Are Defined by What They Do

Milligrams tell you how much material is present. Activity units tell you how much work an enzyme can perform when tested under standardized conditions.

That is why PB Lipase+ identifies the declared activity of each primary enzyme, not only the weight of the formula.

Two enzyme-activity standards appear on the label:

FIP Units
A recognized standard used to measure lipase activity. PB Lipase+ provides 45,000 FIP units of lipase activity.

USP Units
A recognized standard used to measure protease and amylase activity. PB Lipase+ provides 40,000 USP units of protease activity and 45,000 USP units of amylase activity.

These numbers measure different jobs. Lipase works on fats, protease works on proteins and amylase works on carbohydrates. Because each enzyme is tested differently, the numbers should not be compared to determine which enzyme is stronger.

  • PB Lipase+ provides 45,000 FIP units of lipase activity per acid-resistant capsule, supported by 40,000 USP units of protease and 45,000 USP units of amylase.

    This is a deliberately concentrated formula for people who understand that enzyme products are judged by measured activity, not milligrams alone.

    People familiar with cystic fibrosis, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency or prescription PERT may recognize this high-activity approach. That is important context, but not equivalence. PB Lipase+ is a dietary supplement, not prescription PERT, and FIP units should not be compared number-for-number with the USP lipase units stated on prescription pancrelipase products.

  • More activity is not automatically better.

    If you currently use prescription pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy or another high-activity enzyme product, do not add PB Lipase+, substitute it for your medication or change your prescribed enzyme intake without speaking with the healthcare professional managing your care.

    PERT is individually dosed according to the underlying condition, meals, fat intake and clinical response. PB Lipase+ is not intended to treat cystic fibrosis, pancreatic insufficiency or another diagnosed medical condition. Prescription PERT remains the established treatment for pancreatic insufficiency associated with cystic fibrosis.

  • Lipase has important work to do after the stomach.

    Pancreatic enzymes normally act in the duodenum and proximal small intestine, where lipase helps break dietary fats into components the body can absorb. Unprotected pancreatic lipase is particularly vulnerable to acid and pepsin during gastric transit.
